What Not to Do With Your Waitlist Law Schools

I know it’s super frustrating to be stuck in limbo.

We’ve heard from a number of law school applicants recently who have been advised (consider your sources, always!) that they should either call the admissions offices at their waitlist schools just to check in, or have their previous recommenders call the admissions offices at their waitlist school to follow up on the letters they have already submitted. Ostensibly that’s in order to continue demonstrating your interest.

No.

And no.

Send them a LOCI instead. And if they want to hear more from one of your existing recommenders, which isn’t usually the case, they’ll contact your recommenders directly.

Some schools, like Georgetown, also offer Zoom sessions where their admissions folks talk about what’s happening with the waitlist. You can attend those as well.

Schools are swamped. They don’t want to field unnecessary and uninvited check-in phone calls. They’re busy! Pestering them with phone calls will not help your chances.

For waitlist schools you still care about, hang in there. Waitlists typically don’t close out until orientation.
